Raw selvedge denim is designed to evolve with wear. Follow these principles to protect the fabric and develop distinctive, natural fades.
Before the first wash: Wear your jeans often and allow the denim to soften naturally. There is no fixed waiting period—wash when they are genuinely dirty, stained, or uncomfortable.
Washing: Turn jeans inside out. Wash separately in cold water with a small amount of mild, bleach-free detergent. Choose a gentle cycle or hand wash. Avoid fabric softener.
Drying: Reshape while damp and hang dry in the shade. Do not tumble dry; excessive heat can cause unwanted shrinkage and weaken fibers.
Spot cleaning: Use a damp cloth and mild soap. Blot gently rather than scrubbing the indigo surface.
Storage: Hang from the belt loops or fold neatly in a dry, ventilated place.
Every pair will fade differently. Creases, whiskers, and variations in indigo are part of the character of authentic raw denim.
